Self Defence 101

To give high school students of Chittagong a fairly basic understanding of self-defence

19th-20th October, 2016. Chittagong - This project is the second phase of Self-Defence 101 which was held in 6 Universities of Dhaka in May and June, 2016. While the first project emphasized on the necessity of girls learning how to thwart unwanted advances through self-defence tactics, the second phase was open to both male and female students of the respective schools. The aim was to give high school students of Chittagong a fairly basic understanding of self-defence by guiding them through its basic elements along with a two-hour, comprehensive, hands-on training conducted by trained professionals. The Self-Defence 101 organizing team included Maryan Karmoker, Mobashir Monim, Tahseen Lubaba, Rubaiyat Kamal and Roham Sanan. The students participating in the program were very enthusiastic about learning more self-defence techniques. And when asked what they learned from the event, many replied that they felt more confident about themselves. One of the students replied that he learned, from the event, that “fighting is not always about hurting others”. The objective of the project was to teach the students a few useful self-defence tactics, and elevate their confidence level. Seeing the enthusiasm of the participants, and their own admission that they had vastly enjoyed the event and felt more positive about taking up the responsibility of protecting themselves, it can be said that the project was a great success.
