September 18-23, 2017, Central Park, New York City, NY, USA - The Global Citizen Festival is an annual music festival that brings together musicians and world leaders to make commitments towards health, gender equality, education and other poverty issues. This concert is timed to coincide with the UN General Assembly to raise awareness and leverage Government aid. YES Alumna 2011-2012 Shomy Hasan Chowdhury is the Youth Advocate of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in Bangladesh for Global Citizen. She was invited to this festival to speak in front of 60,000 people to talk about the importance of WASH and why investments in WASH needs to be made. She co-hosted the festival along with many celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Hugh Jackman, etc. She had the opportunity to talk about her work and represent Bangladesh and her organization “Awareness 360” with dignitaries of different sectors. She has also promoted the YES Program since her journey of community service began with it. She also took part in various events tied with the global goals during the Global Citizen week. Her story has been featured on MSNBC as well.
